**Dear Invisible Friends,
Before you think I'm obsessed with food (don't judge me), I must point out this post came as a request of Ben. You see, he's had cinnamon toast for a little night snack four nights in a row. And if that doesn't deserve an ode, what does?
Grace, this is for you.
And now...
Ode to Cinnamon Toast and How I Love Thee
Ode to cinnamon toast,
And how I love thee.
From your buttery base,
To your crispy edges,
Cinnamon laden center,
with sugar that melts on my tongue.
Oh toast of cinnamon,
you never cease to amaze me.
How a simple piece of bread with butter
can be so amazing with just two little additions.
I must admit, oh sugary breakfast delight,
I've loved you since childhood.
You're the taste I crave when I need to be babied,
The comfort I need when the world's gone wrong.
You see, cinnamon toast, I'm not sophisticated.
I don't want expensive dishes,
I don't want quail or lamb or snails,
And I thought foie gras came from a lawn.
Here in the Pond,
We believe simple is best.
And my tasty toast,
you're about as simple as it gets.
Butter, sugar cinnamon,
A little bit of heat,
I can hardly stand waiting
for that first bite.
And when I hear the pitter patter of feet,
Towards the kitchen,
it makes me smile.
For I know I'm not the only one craving your tasty wiles.
One of many, I suppose.
Load up the sugar,
And lay on that cinnamon.
Shake it, shake it, shake it, as the song says,
For I can't get enough.
Ode to cinnamon toast,
And how I love thee.
From your crispy crust,
to your soft buttery center,
every bite is pure joy.
Oh Cinnamon Toast,
And how I love thee.
Do this crazy duck a favor,
And promise me one thing.
Stay away from the cookie-stealing bunny,
And his quick paws.
For not even he,
Can love you like I can.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! Tomorrow we have the Pond's New Year Resolutions and the kick-off of the New Recipe Series Thursday! Then we have a new Twirl and more whimsical fun!

Hahaha, cinnamon toast is YUMMY!
Thank you for my birthday wish! You are so sweet! Have a happy new year!!! :o)
mmmmm....cinnamon. Can I come and get spoiled, pleeeaassseee
Visiting via the SITS roll call -- because I love the name Blonde Duck!
I also (used to) love cinnamon toast about as much as you do, until about 11 years ago, when I found out I was allergic to wheat. And yeast.
Sigh.
I think I'll go make some imitation cinnamon toast, with wheat-free, yeast-free (no kidding, the stuff exists) bread.
Wow! I have been busy getting caught up with your blog. I sat down with a fresh cup of coffee, put down the guitar, turned off the Wii, and read your blog. I am so glad you had a fantastic Christmas and can't wait to see what the Pond's New Year's resolutions will be. Thank you for your sweet card and the story you sent. I have read it several times and the homegirlz love it as much as I do. I think they will become avid readers of your blog. I know 2009 will hold great things for a talented woman as you Miranda!
Happy New Year Duck!
Mornin Ducky! :-) You're going to make me ruin my diet..hehehe
LOLOL!! And to throw in the cookie-stealing bunny...too perfect!
Don't be afraid of Twitter - you can post your lovely odes (2 lines at a time since it only allows 270 characters per post)! I follow one person who writes haiku for nearly all his posts. ;)
Happy 2009! Write on!
one of my all time favorite treats as a kid.....hmmmm maybe I will have some now.
What a classic favorite! That cookie stealing bunny did it again. He just makes my day!!! He makes my laugh all the time :)
Lol. I've never read an Ode to Cinnamon Toast before. Every word of it is true!
Funny and yummy all in one! You always make me smile. Now I want some too!
I'm hungry now. :)
Mmmmmm, yummy. My brother used to eat that every single day, growing up. I may need a little snack later.
How funny! I am going to have to share this with my kids. They go through so much cinnamon toast it isn't even funny!
At the risk of sounding all Rachel Ray - YUMMO. I had forgotten until now that I used to have that a long time ago when I was younger. So good!!!!! Still loving the bunny!
When I was in high school cinnamon toast was definitely my late night treat after coming home on weekend nights! Still love it. The bunny is hilarious! Was that a trap?
THanks for visiting me in Kathmandu:)!
That was so cute!! I find anything with cinnamon in it very appealing, yummy!!
Cinnamon toast completely deserves poetry. I'm glad someone finally realized that!
Let me know if you make the bread!
I have a sudden craving for...you guessed it...
Cinnamon toast!
Delish :)
Ummmm...toast...
Great job running 24 miles! You are right, I am proud of you!

Your husband has great taste.. Cinnamon Toast is a great snack!
Oh how you cracka me up! :) Just love reading about your life and the cinnamon toast. Have a happy new year!
Oh my goodness, I love cinammon toast! It's no corn dog jello, but it looks good anyway.
Thanks for your comment. I will be back!
Oh I got such a kick out of your ode to cinnamon toast! For I feel just the same. It all started with my mom. She would butter the bread, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar on it and BAKE it for a few minutes. Yum. OR she would butter the bread, FRY it in a pan, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over it when it was nice and browned but not too browned. Double yum. :o)
Okay, now I need to make cinnamon toast. I am with Ben...it makes a GREAT snack and it's been awhile since I've had it! I totally forgot I LOVE cinnamon toast until now. :) Thanks Blondie!
Mmmmmm, I've never had cinnamon toast. It sounds delightful! Can't wait until 9:30 tonight when the kids ask for a snack...cinnamon toast coming right up! Thanks, Ben!

Gotta love cinnamon toast. You better make more Speedy is on his way and well I am not sure how long it will take him. I love the eight armed shirts he is bringing to wear in the cold. he he

I'm with your-cinnamon toast is food of the gods and most certainly worth an ode! Happy 2009 :)
You are so right about cinnamon toast but when I used to make that as a child, you wouldn't have believed how much cinnamon sugar I put on there. It was absolutely THICK.
Well I love food well at least I
can for one more day only (New Years resolutions to not like food so much) and I think I better go get some cinnamon toast. It is comfort food at its best and reminds me of my childhood - it was, and is, a real treat!

Like so many others, you're making me crave the stuff :) Beautifully done, especially the end. :)

Ahhh . . . cinnamon toast, the nectar of the Gods!! I make mine a bit differently, but no matter how you make it or cut it, it's great!! Love the cookie stealing bunny. Have you ever made cinnamon roll cookies? Happy New Year!
Owning a Chihuahua is like being a part of a special club, and only people who have had them know. :-)
quite frankly, toast is worthless to me unless there's cinnamon dumped on top. i enjoyed your ode and heartily thank you, on behalf of the best spice in the world. :)
I have not had cinnamon toast in a million years (I feel that old sometimes), and am going to make it for my mid before dinner snack!
Girl, love me some cinnamon toast!!! Is there any other way to start the day???
I just have to tell you that my husband liked this out of all the other entrants in the cinnamon celebration, including my own. He wanted yours:)
