Reminds me of one of my favouritest cartoons when I was a child where this mother bird was asking her baby chicks what they wanted for dinner and each one piped up worms mammy!! (they were black birds) I could see the images of your story in my head. I do love to watch the fledglings as they venture out of the nest and the mother feeds them.
